Travel
The organizers of the 2020 Advanced Accelerator Concepts Workshop (AAC2020) have canceled this year’s event due to an abundance of caution surrounding the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. This difficult decision was taken with the well-being of our colleagues, staff, and the local community foremost.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your interest in AAC2020. We will be in touch as we learn more in this rapidly evolving situation that affects us all.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is unable to reimburse travel expenses, including any cancellation or change fees; please work with your home institution for this.
Wishing you the best of health in the coming months,
Eric Esarey, Chair, AAC2020
Asilomar is in the Monterey, California area, about 75 miles south of the San Francisco Bay area. The Conference Grounds has a web page about how to get there.
American, United, and Alaska Airlines serve Monterey's airport, MRY, from several cities in the western US. Taxicabs, ride-hailing services, and "airporter" shuttles (shared door-to-door vans) are viable alternatives to rental cars for the 8-mile trip from MRY to Asilomar.
Flying into San Francisco International Airport SFO) or San Jose International Airport (SJC), then taking ground transportation such as an "airporter" or a rental car, is another practical approach.
Oakland International Airport (OAK) is also feasible by rental car, though not all of the airporter shuttles that serve Monterey go there.
Time Zone
Monterey, like all of California, is in the Pacific Time Zone, and AAC2020 will be held during the months of Daylight Savings Time, so the UTC (GMT) offset is -7.
Weather
A short-term forecast will be posted here in the week before the Workshop. Generally speaking, weather in late June in the Monterey area is clear to at most partly cloudy, with almost no chance of rain. Expect daytime high temperatures in the mid to high 60˚ F (18-20˚ C) range, with overnight lows in the low to mid 50s F (11-13˚C).
